Our experience includes transforming a former coal-fired power facility in Upstate New York into a natural gas generation facility, materially reducing the site’s historical emissions profile while preserving critical power infrastructure and supporting regional grid reliability.
That same redevelopment mindset informs our AI and HPC strategy. Vulcan seeks to repurpose generation assets, industrial sites and underutilized infrastructure wherever practical, extending the productive life of these facilities by building on the infrastructure already in place. By pairing these assets with modern electrical systems, advanced cooling technologies and more efficient generation solutions, we aim to support computing growth while improving overall infrastructure performance.
We also recognize that AI data centers can become important participants in the broader power system. Through behind-the-meter generation, grid coordination, demand flexibility and potential participation in capacity and ancillary-service markets, Vulcan Infrastructure and Power intends to develop facilities that support both customers and the reliability of the surrounding electric grid.
Environmental responsibility also requires addressing the legacy conditions associated with industrial properties. Vulcan has supported initiatives involving site remediation, the closure of a decades-old coal ash landfill and the evaluation of renewable and lower-emission energy technologies. Future projects may incorporate solutions such as fuel cells, renewable generation, energy storage, water-efficient cooling and other technologies where they improve reliability, efficiency and environmental footprint.
As we develop power-intensive infrastructure across the country, Vulcan Infrastructure and Power will work with regulators, utilities, local governments and community stakeholders to operate responsibly, meet applicable environmental requirements and identify opportunities to improve the land, infrastructure and communities surrounding our projects.
